The John Paul Stapp Best Paper Award

“Kinematics of the Thoracoabdominal Contents Under Various Loading Scenarios” was submitted to the 56th Stapp Car Crash Conference and presented with the John Paul Stapp Best Paper Award at the 57th conference, held in Orlando, Florida, in 2013. Authors include Meghan K. Howes, T. Stan Gregory, Warren N. Hardy, Virginia Tech-Wake Forest University Center for Injury Biomechanics; and Philippe D Beillas, IFSTTAR, France.

John W. Melvin Student Award

First Place: Awarded to Jonas Östh for “Driver Kinematics and Muscle Responses in Braking Events with Standard and Reversible Pre-tensioned Restraints: Validation for Human Models.” Additional authors include Jóna Marín Olafsdóttir, Jonah Davidsson, and Karen Brolin from Chalmers University of Technology.

Second Place: Awarded to Sijia Zhang for “The Roles of Mechanical Compression and Chemical Irritation in Regulating Spinal Neuronal Signaling in Painful Cervical Nerve Root Injury.” Additional authors include Kristen Nicholson, Jenell Smith, Taylor Gilliland, Peter Syré, and Beth Winkelstein from the University of Pennsylvania.

Third Place: Awarded to Randa Radwan Samaha for “Opportunities for Injury Reduction in US Frontal Crashes: An Overview by Structural Engagement Vehicle Class and Occupant Age.” Additional authors include Priya Prasad and Lilly Nix, from The George Washington University and Prasad Engineering, LLC.
